tOpos Shelf is a 3D printable bracket that is one of the results of our design research into topology optimization techniques applied to digital fabrication. By defining a 3D domain along with load and support vectors, forms can be iteratively generated and evaluated for strength, weight reduction, and tool/hardware clearance.

 

From the original domain this resulted in a greater than 70% reduction in volume, which translates to material used in the 3D printing process.
